DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts

Nothing says “I love you” like a handmade gift. Here are some easy and adorable gift ideas you can put together in a jiffy. They’re easily customizes and you can make them as elaborate or simple as you want.

Gift Idea #1: Brown Goody Bags

This is a great project to do with your kids and make perfect gifts for their classmates or teacher. It’s so simple and there are a million different ways to dress it up. Get creative with it!

Here’s what you’ll need:IMG_3154

  • Tasty Treats from the Bulk Department
  • Brown Paper Bags
  • Doilies
  • Tags
  • Stamps, Stickers, & Markers
  • Clothes Pin
  • Ribbon

To create your gifts, tie up your treats with a cute bow. Create your tags with with stamps, stickers or markers or just decorate the bag itself. Put the treats in the brown paper bag and fold the top down. Next take the doily and fold it in half over the top of the bag. Use a clothes pin to affix the doily and hold your tag as pictured or staple it. If you want to go a step further punch two holes through the tag, doily and paper bag, then thread a ribbon through the holes and tie a bow. Voila!

Gift Idea #2: The Fun is in the Pun

Everyone loves to laugh. These punny little treats will make your sweetheart chuckle, groan, then dig in!

bulkWhat you’ll need:

  • Bulk Treats
  • Twine, Ribbon, or Yarn
  • Notecards/Tags
  • Markers
  • Gift Bag

It doesn’t get much simpler than this. The best part of this present is searching through the bulk department and coming up with puns. Once you get started you’ll be amazed how many you come up with, I’m a ‘sucker’ for you (lollipops),  you’re ‘raisin’ my heart rate, we always have a ‘ball’ when we’re together(malt balls). Next, pull out your markers and get busy making tags. We used recycled card stock, but it would look just as cute with construction paper, a brown paper bag, wrapping paper or whatever you have on hand! Another great idea is to fill small mason jars with your treats and cut a circle from construction paper to fit between the rim and the lid. The possibilities are endless. Just let your imagination take over.

Gift Idea #4: Personalized Gift Bags

These adorable little bags are far easier than they look and they couldn’t be any cuter!

What you’ll need: collage2

  • Cloth Tea Bags
  • Treats
  • Paint and Paint Brush
  • Stamps and Ink
  • Paperboard (like from a cereal box) or Note Cards
  • Scissors

Pick up some cloth tea bags or spice bags. The spice bags are a bit bigger so if you have a larger gift it might be a better option. Take a square piece of paperboard and fold it in half. Cut a half heart along the folded spine. This should give you a perfect heart cut out. Next put some paint on a piece of scrap paper and coat the tip of your paint brush. Place the heart over your tea bag and brush paint into the cut out. Try painting around the heart you’ve cut out of the paperboard for the reverse look. You could also use stencils to create words and pictures. Stamps work really well on the cloth too. Just make sure to saturate your stamp and press firmly!

Gift Idea #4: Banana Tattoos

Want something a little healthier for your loved ones? Tattoo bananas with sweet messages! These turn out super cool and make the perfect present for lunches. Don’t worry, the tattoos won’t bruise the flesh of the banana.

IMG_3211What you’ll need:

  • Bananas
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Safety Pin

Start by drawing your message or picture on the banana. If you’re too nervous to jump right into drawing directly on the banana, draw your design on a piece of paper and hold it on top of the banana. Then take your safety pin and poke tiny holes to fill in your design. Be careful to puncture only the peel of the banana or you’ll end up bruising the fruit too. Want to keep with the fruit theme? Why not make a fruit basket? There are as many fruit puns as there are candy puns!
