The mission of Garten Services is to support people with disabilities in their effort to contribute to the community through employment, career, and retirement opportunities. Garten Services’ work is meant to increase society’s awareness of human potential. Our donation will help Garten create meaningful opportunities, promote inclusion, and support people with disabilities in building independence and meaningful employment in our community.
Together, We’re Investing in Ability
Garten offers several types of services that focus on the abilities and unique competencies of each person:
- The Daybreak Day Support Program offers engaging adult day services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities in Salem, Oregon. Participants build friendships, explore shared interests, and take part in meaningful activities that support independence, connection, and personal growth.
- Garten provides employment services and community support services, helping individuals build skills, confidence, and meaningful connections through work, and helping individuals find and maintain jobs while contributing to a more inclusive local workforce. Participants find jobs in print and mail services, document destruction, electronics recycling, landscaping, electronics recycling, custodial services, and more.
- The Landscape Training Program is a no-cost, six-week landscape training program designed to prepare participants for entry-level careers in the landscaping industry. Participants who successfully complete the program earn a Non-Credited Certificate through Chemeketa Community College, along with a $1,400 stipend to support them as they take their next career step.

How is LifeSource supporting Garten Services?
This March, all of our Bag Credit Donations will go directly to Garten Services.
How do LifeSource Bag Credit Donations work?
LifeSource credits you 10¢ for each reusable bag you use, and 5¢ for each reusable bulk container. You can keep that credit if you want, or you can choose to direct it to the local nonprofit we’ve selected for the month. This month, it’s Garten Services.
How much does LifeSource donate each month?
It depends how much our customers have allocated in Bag Credit Donations! But those nickels and dimes add up. In January, for example, we donated $963.09 to the Center for Hope & Safety. As soon as we’ve calculated the previous month’s total, we’ll post it on the big screen above the checkout lanes at the front of the store.
