Where Small Acts Take Root

LifeSource Bag Credit Donations Support Salem Environmental Education and help grow a more connected, curious community.

Salem Environmental Education (SEE) connects people of all ages to nature through hands-on outdoor learning– fostering curiosity, stewardship, and lifelong environmental care within our community. Through inclusive programs for people of all ages, SEE empowers the Salem community to make real change.

Through strong community partnerships, SEE offers a range of programs:

  • Nature Play for 3 to 5 year olds, aimed at introducing young naturalists to the world around them with outdoor adventures, sparking imagination and encouraging exploration through hands-on play.
  • PAWS (Plants, Animals, Water, and Soil) Outdoor School for 5th graders, using the principles of engaging directly with nature, proven instruction based on how people learn, thinking like a scientist, participating in culturally relevant learning environments, and learning through discussion. Field sites include The Oregon Garden, Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge, Minto-Brown Island Park, and Wallace House Park.
  • Youth Science, both in and out of the classroom, with diverse, standards-based programs on topics like pollinators, bats, composting, and watersheds, as well as Environmental STEM after school programs examining design challenges such as beaver dams, storm water management, and animal adaptations.
  • Adult education, with stargazing and wine tasting in the summer and a mushroom foray in the fall.

How can I learn more about Salem Environmental Education?

You can visit their website at salemee.org. You can also find them on Facebook and Instagram.

How does LifeSource support Salem Environmental Education?

This April, all of our Bag Credit Donations will go directly to Salem Environmental Education.

How do LifeSource Bag Credit Donations work?

LifeSource credits you 10¢ for each reusable bag you use, and 5¢ for each reusable bulk container. You can keep that credit if you want, or you can choose to direct it to the local nonprofit we’ve selected for the month. This month, it’s Salem Environmental Education.

How much does LifeSource donate each month?

It depends how much our customers have allocated in Bag Credit Donations! But those nickels and dimes add up. In February, for example, we donated $779.41 to Salem Angels. As soon as we’ve calculated the previous month’s total, we’ll post it on the big screen above the checkout lanes at the front of the store.
