Support a Local Nonprofit This May

This May, LifeSource is donating to The Northwest Hub. You can help!

What is The Northwest Hub?

The Northwest Hub exists to mobilize and empower our community through bike reclamation, distribution, training, and service. At first glance, it’s a bike shop offering bicycle sales and servicing where you might find some sweet new wheels or get your current ride tuned up or repaired. But it’s also a nonprofit dedicated to helping the underserved in our community gain access to reliable transportation, a key element in upward economic mobility.

Programs That Make an Impact

The Northwest Hub’s programs include:

  • The STEP Program for community members to receive job training and access free transportation. Trainees are typically referred from other agencies and are receiving SNAP benefits. They have the opportunity for short term employment at the Hub, providing them with skills, stability, and employment history.
  • The Volunteer Purchase program, for community members to volunteer their time and receive a bike in return.
  • The Frame Up program for young adults navigating challenging life transitions. Frame Up participants receive technical training, transitional employment, and support from a licensed counselor.
  • The Farmworker Support Program provides bicycle transportation and free repair services to farmworkers throughout Marion County. This is in collaboration with other nonprofits offering a range of services to the farmworker community.
  • The Refugee Support Program, is a partnership with Salem for Refugees. It  provides bikes, helmets, lights, and locks to recently displaced people who have taken refuge in Salem.

Your Donations at Work

This May, all of our Bag Credit Donations will go directly to The Northwest Hub.

How do LifeSource Bag Credit Donations work?

LifeSource credits you 10¢ for each reusable bag you use, and 5¢ for each reusable bulk container. You can keep that credit if you want, or you can choose to direct it to the local nonprofit we’ve selected for the month. This month, it’s The Northwest Hub.

How much does LifeSource donate each month?

It depends how much our customers have allocated in Bag Credit Donations! But those nickels and dimes add up. In March, for example, we donated $914 to Garten Services. As soon as we’ve calculated the previous month’s total, we’ll post it on the big screen above the checkout lanes at the front of the store.
