Support Black Joy Oregon with LifeSource Bag Credit Donations
This July, LifeSource is proud to support Black Joy Oregon through our Bag Credit Donation program. Every time you shop with reusable bags or bulk containers, you can choose to donate your bag credits to help support their work in our community.
What is Black Joy Oregon?
Black Joy Oregon is a Black-led nonprofit rooted in community, resilience and joy. Providing mentorship and leadership opportunities for women of color while cultivating safe spaces for marginalized communities, Black Joy Oregon runs a community farm that provides fresh, organic produce to marginalized communities at no cost.
Black Joy Farm
Growing at Black Joy Farm, a ¼-acre community garden in Keizer, began in 2024. That first season, the farm produced 1500 lbs of organic produce, which was all distributed to BIPOC households in the Salem-Keizer area. In 2025, that amount doubled to over 3000 lbs. In another recent project, Black Joy Oregon distributed hydroponic systems to allow people to grow their own food indoors if they don’t have access to outdoor growing space.
This June, all of our Bag Credit Donations will go directly to Black Joy Oregon.
How do LifeSource Bag Credit Donations work?
LifeSource credits you 10¢ for each reusable bag you use, and 5¢ for each reusable bulk container. You can keep that credit if you want, or you can choose to direct it to the local nonprofit we’ve selected for the month. This month, it’s Black Joy Oregon.
How much does LifeSource donate each month?
It depends how much our customers have allocated in Bag Credit Donations! But those nickels and dimes add up. In May, for example, we donated $1015 to The Northwest Hub. As soon as we’ve calculated the previous month’s total, we’ll post it on the big screen above the checkout lanes at the front of the store.
