Marion Polk Food Share Youth Farm
The Youth Farm’s program for youth ages 13-18 runs for almost the entire year. Participants learn to tend more than 40 types of fruits and vegetables using organic methods. They learn not only how to grow food, but also how to cooperatively manage a small business and develop their leadership skills. The 6-acre farm, located on Chemeketa Community College’s northeast Salem campus, contains an orchard, production fields, and a learning garden. The food harvested is distributed to food pantries, clinics, and the youth farmers and their families.
If you’re 13-18 years old and interested in becoming part of the Marion Polk Food Share Youth Farm, sign up for their farm crew training, coming up in March! The training is free and a vegetarian lunch is provided, and is a requirement to be eligible for the summer farm crew.
