Summer Produce Update

Summer Produce Update
Local strawberries in abundance!
Despite a delay caused by cool late-spring weather, strawberries are abundant and delicious now.
According to Nottinghamshire Farms, strawberry availability should continue through August.
It is great to have local strawberries available for such an extended period of time.
Sublime Organics raspberries are limited, but looking good for another week or two.
The super hot weather will hasten ripening, so enjoy them now while they are dark and juicy!
We have been also receiving some super aromatic Italian Parsley from Sublime Organics as well.

This style of parsley goes great with some heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella di bufala!

'Speaking of tomatoes...'

Summer Produce Update

We hope to receive about 20 cases of these wonderful mixed cherry tomatoes tomorrow, (fingers crossed!) These tomatoes add color to a summer salad, and the flavor is perfect for snacking.

Persian Cucumber

English Cucumbers

Shirazi Salad, named after the Persian city, is a perfect way to enjoy these cucumbers on a hot summer evening. Click to see the recipe!

Local blueberries from Berkey’s Blueberries have been a hit in the department and at the registers. They are firm, sweet and addictive. I may or may not have eaten a couple pints by myself…better than a pint of ice cream though..Right?

Some specialty items to be on the lookout for in the near future are local gooseberries, red and black currants and some yellow and red dragon fruit (not so local, but a rare treat.)

Lots and lots of local items in general here especially with lettuces and other greens..

Im working on a project to find out how many local items we actually carry right now, as its a fair percentage of the department!

We have local kales, chard, Spinach, all lettuces, raspberries, blueberries, beans, mushrooms, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, Fennel and more items on the horizon! What a great way to talk about the amazing community of growers we have in the Willamette Valley.

…and don’t forget the flowers! Our bouquets and plant starts are all grown locally as well.

Thanks for all your support everyone! You help make us great!
Jason
