Fresh local strawberries are the first fruit we typically have here in the Willamette Valley, ripening before other early fruits like raspberries and cherries. But not all years are friendly to strawberries. In years with cool, wet springs, strawberries arrive later, perhaps not even until mid June, and lots of rain means less flavorful berries.
